Creative Review — BIRI Identity
Published

We’re thrilled to announce that our recent work with the British International Research Institutes (BIRI) has been featured in Creative Review, a platform that highlights exceptional work across the creative industries. This recognition underscores the importance of our branding work for this significant network of research excellence.
BIRI connects UK-based researchers with communities around the world, working across regions that include southern Europe, the Black Sea, Africa, the Middle East, and Central Asia. These institutes play a vital role in sustaining cultural and diplomatic relationships, while promoting knowledge exchange and academic research in arts, humanities, and social sciences. With each institute operating independently and boasting its own unique history, our challenge was to bring them together under a unified research institute brand without compromising their individual contributions.
We helped BIRI’s leadership unite behind a shared vision of collaboration, while creating an identity that reflects their collective strength and celebrates their diversity. The new branding is designed to strike the right balance between celebrating the distinctive contributions of each institute and promoting their common mission. A new logo and visual identity were developed, combining historical references with a modern look, and a colour palette inspired by the regions where the institutes are based.
Our work has not only transformed BIRI’s visual identity but also inspired a larger vision. The leadership is now pursuing a bid to become an Independent Research Organisation, a move that would enable them to compete for significant UK research funding and ensure the long-term sustainability of the institutes.
We’re incredibly proud to have played a part in shaping the future of such an important organisation. Our work has helped BIRI connect its global network with a renewed sense of purpose and ambition, ensuring that it remains at the forefront of research for many years to come.
